MUSIC FOR LIBERIA
Kamilla is the founder and Director of Music for Liberia, a small charity which organises concerts and events to raise funds for children and education in Liberia. Since 2008, Music for Liberia's donations have enabled its charity partners to fund crucial work, including building libraries, supporting rural schools, providing accommodation for Ebola orphans and more. This year, Music for Liberia is proud to be supporting Mother Blessings Orphanage in Mount Barclay, Liberia and the Cachelle International Creative Arts Center in Monrovia, Liberia.
Music for Liberia has worked with some of the UK's most exciting performers, including pianist Stephen Kovacevich, the Heath and Navarra quartets; violinist Leland Chen; kora players Sona Jobarteh and Kadialy Kouyate; vocalist Alice Zawadzki; baritone Peter Braithwaite; saxophonist Renato D'Aiello; storyteller Usifu Jalloh, and many more. Music for Liberia has also invited young musicians to work with and perform alongside its professional musicians, including students from East London's Kuumba Youth Music and Wandsworth's World Heart Beat Music Academy.
In 2012, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf thanked the artists and organisers for their 'generosity and compassion to help us address a critical problem.''
